Revisions to Personnel PolicyCITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUM'E SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: APRIL 17, 2001 AGENDA ITEM: REVISIONS TO PERSONNEL POLICY AGENDA SECTION: CONSENT PREPARED BY: PAULA GRAFF, AGENDA NO: HUMAN RESOURCES COORDINATOR' ATTACHMENTS: NONE APPROVED BY: Following is the proposed policy regarding personal appearance to be added to the City's Personnel Policy. Section 47. PERSONAL APPEARANCE OF E`IPLOYEES It is the City's policy that each employee's dress, grooming, and personal hygiene should be appropriate to the work situation. Employees are expected at all times to present a professional appearance to the public. Acceptable personal appearance, like proper maintenance of work areas, is an ongoing requirement of employment with the City. Radical departures from conventional dress or personal grooming and hygiene are not permitted. Office workers and any employees who have regular contact with the public are expected to dress in a manner that is normally acceptable in similar business establishments. Employees should not wear suggestive attire, jeans, athletic . clothing, and similar items of casual attire since this clothing does not present a businesslike appearance. Also, items such as T- shirts or baseball hats with inappropriate slogans are not to be worn. This is not an all- inclusive list thus, management reserves the right to determine appropriateness. Certain employees may be required to meet special dress grooming and hygiene standards, such as wearing uniforms, depending on the nature of their job. At its discretion, the City may allow employees to dress in a more casual fashion than is normal (i.e. jeans on casual Fridays). On these occasions, employees are still expected to present a neat appearance and are not permitted to wear torn or disheveled clothing, athletic wear, or similarly inappropriate clothing. Any employee who does not meet the standards of this policy will be required to take corrective action, which may include leaving the premises. Non - exempt employees will not be compensated for any work time missed because of failure to comply with this policy. If an employee is warned or sent home two times, a written warning will be issued and placed in the employee's personnel file. If the dress code policy is violated after the written warning, the employee will be sent home without pay for the remainder of the day. The City of Rosemount reserves the right to amend this policy at any time. RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO APPROVE THE PROPOSED ADDITION TO THE CITY'S PERSONNEL POLICY. COUNCIL ACTION:
