CONDITION; NEW COST ESTIMATE I'll I Attached Council will find a listing of furniture currently owned by the City. The list shows staff recommendation as to whether the item should be retained, or if the item should be sold (if possible) or discarded. If replacement is being recommended, a reason will be found under the column marked "Justification." Items such as file cabinets and conference tables are recommended for reuse in the remodeled building. Staff recommends that the rest of the items be replaced. Primary in the reasoning for new furniture is the ergonomic functions and adaptability that is available in the new product. The new product line would also be uniform in color and style and would provide the remodeled City Hall with a professional and consistent appearance. If Council agrees with this recommendation, furniture that is still in usable condition will first be distributed to other locations in the City that need furniture upgrades. Then if the old furniture is no longer needed, it will be sent to a furniture distribution location for resale. After some review, staff found that cuts could be made in the furniture budget by: • reusing desk chairs; • reusing side chairs; • reusing lunch room tables; • reusing council chamber staff tables; and • reusing small round tables in offices. By reusing these items, the City would see the projected cost of furniture decrease from $225,494 to $213,467, a cost savings from the original estimate of approximately $12,027. (See the revised cost estimate.) However, under this scenario the professional and uniform appearance of City Hall would be slightly diminished.
