Public Works Director RecruitmentCITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING DATE: JUNE 13, 2001 AGENDA ITEM: PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR AGENDA NO.: RECRUITMENT PREPARED BY: PAULA GRAFF, HR COORDINATOR ATTACHMENTS: NONE I APPROVED BY: We are proposing to again open the position of Public Works Director/ City Engineer. To facilitate a successful process, recruitment will be more extensive than it has been previously. I will be advertising in more publications including newspapers and professional journals, sending letters to engineering professionals in other communities, using MNDOT resources and utilizing more personal contacts of staff and consultants. Council should also be aware that the market for engineers has become more competitive since the last process was conducted. At the present time, I have only anecdotal information. However, at the end of the month the 2001 Stanton survey will be out, at which time I would propose the position's compensation be reviewed. If, upon this review, the compensation is significantly different from the other Stanton VI cities, I would hope to bring this back to Council at the July work session. In the meantime, I hope to begin the recruitment processes without indicating a pay range. Other than these differences, the rest of the recruitment process will be similar to past recruitment, unless Council would like to proceed differently. Tentative timelines are as follows: Week of June 18 — Prepare recruitment materials June 25 — July 13 — Position open Week of July 16th - Screen applications, make initial contact with candidates, and arrange interviews. Week of July 23 and July 30th — Conduct staff interview (focusing on technical expertise), conduct reference checks, recommend candidates for Council interview and extend offers.
