Background
For several years, communities around Minnesota have celebrated what began as Minnesota
Manufacturers' Week and has now become Minnesota Manufacturing & Technology Month. This
year the month will be observed from October 22 through November 23. Highlights include tours of
local manufacturing plants by public officials, public education campaigns and recognition of the
manufacturing and technology sectors by the Governor Ventura.
The attached draft proclamation points out several of the key contributions to the state made by
manufacturing and technology companies around Minnesota. With all the industry in Rosemount, this
is a particularly appropriate proclamation for the City of Rosemount to make.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the proclamation for Minnesota Manufacturing & Technology Month.

MINNESOTA MANUFACTURING & TECHNOLOGY MONTH
WHEREAS, Manufacturing technology has the second largest total payroll of
any business sector in Minnesota. Providing $19 billion in 1999 wages, and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing technology produces $31.3 billion for the state
economy and is the third largest single share (18.1 %) of our gross product, and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing technology exports brought nearly $10.2 billion
into the Minnesota economy in 2000, and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing technology provides high skill, high wage jobs
which significantly contribute to Minnesota's high standard of living and economic
vitality; and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing technology contributed nearly $251 million in
corporate income taxes in Minnesota, more than any other business sector, and
nearly on -third of total corporate income taxes in 1998;
THEREFORE, the City Council and Mayor of the City of Rosemount does
hereby proclaim the week of October 22-November 23, 2001, to be:
