COUNCIL ACTION: 0) CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING DATE: March 12, 2001 AGENDA ITEM: Recommendation to Authorize Plans & AGENDA SECTION: Spec's — Shannon Pond Excavation Old Business PREPARED BY: Bret Weiss, Interim City Engineer AGENDA NO: 5d. ATTACHMENTS: APPROVED BY: . Y In continuing with the stormwater improvements that are proposed for 2001, we previously identified the need to expand the volume of Shannon Pond to accommodate the increased stormwater discharged from Birger Pond, as well as proposed Hawkins Pond which will be completed in 2001. Currently Shannon Pond does not have an outlet, however to -date it has done an excellent job of providing infiltration of the surface water that has discharged to its basin. We have initially estimated that an additional 60,000 cubic yards of material can be removed from the basin, which would increase the stormwater storage from 55.70 acre -feet to approximately, 74 acre -feet. I have had recent conversations with the developer of the property, Jim Allen, as well as the current owner of the available lots, Bill Ryan. Fill can easily be provided for existing lots that have not been developed to -date and require some amount of fill to allow proper development. We are proposing to prepare plans and specifications to remove the excess material from the site and add appropriate wetland vegetation around the basin. We are hoping to have this work completed in the 2001 construction season and at no cost to the City of Rosemount. Our intent would be to prepare plans and specifications to bid this project out with the hope that the material to be removed would be valuable enough to offset any cost of removal or restoration. We are requesting that the Utility Commission recommend to the City Council to prepare the plans and specifications and move forward with the bidding process with this important project. RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO RECOMMEND THAT CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZES THE PREPARATION OF PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE SHANNON POND EXCAVATION.
