Appoint Election Judges- CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: AUGUST 15, 2000 AGENDA: APPOINTING ELECTION JUDGES AGENDA SECTION: CONSENT PREPARED BY: LINDA JENTINK, CITY CLERK AGENDA ATTACHMENTS: RESOLUTION, SURVEY APPROVED BY: The State of Minnesota has called for a Primary Election on September 12, 2000 and the county, state, federal, and the City of Rosemount has called for a General Election on November 7, 2000. The election judges are necessary to carry out these elections and maintain the election process with integrity, access, privacy, and accuracy. The resolution lists 56 Dakota County residents who have shown interest in aiding the city with these up- coming elections. Forty-one judges have been trained to date. . I recommend a pay raise of $.50 for the judges to show appreciation for the fine job they do. A survey is attached showing other cities judges' hourly rate. The last raise was in 1998 and it was $.50 at that time when Rosemount's judges pay was on the low side. Please remember that many people working at fast food places can start at $8.00 per hour and I hope to encourage these judges to return and add experience to the polling places each year. Thank you for your consideration. Now Increase Election Judge $6.50 $7.00 Co- Captains $6.75 $7.25 Captains $7.00 $7.50 RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION to approve A RESOLUTION APPOINTING ELECTION JUDGES and to increase their compensation to $7.00 for judges, $7.25 for co- captains, and $7.50 for captains.
