Application for A Kennel License, Martha Simonett, 12765 Chinchilla Ave.+9 CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING February 15, 2000 AGENDA ITEM: APPLICATION FOR A KENNEL LICENSE, MARTHA SIMONETT, 12765 CHINCHILLA AVENUE AGENDA SECTION: PUBLIC HEARING PREPARED BY: LINDA JENTINK, CITY CLERK AGE IPM:, 7 ATTACHMENTS: EXHIBIT A, SITE DRAWING, MAP L_ APPROVED B Y: Martha Simonett has applied for a residential kennel license at 12765 Chinchilla Ave. Ms. Simonett and her husband raise AKC German Shepherds dogs for show. She has three dogs at this time and may have more from time to time after pups are raised. The kennel license is required with four adult dogs. Ms. Simonett has obtained the signatures of neighbors Wilfahrt and Tapper on consent forms in favor of the kennel license. I have fielded some phone calls regarding this kennel license, but no out -right opposition. The Police Department reports there have not been any dog complaints at this address. All dogs are currently licensed with the City of Rosemount. I know of no reason to withhold this kennel license, so therefore recommend its approval dependent on information received during the public hearing. RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION to approve the residential kennel license for Martha Simonett at 12765 Chinchilla Avenue, Rosemount, Minnesota.. CITY COUNCIL ACTION: EXHIBIT A Our lot is approximately three acres. On the attached diagram, you will see where our kennel enclosures are located. This is purely a personal hobby for my husband and I. We show dogs at AKC sanctioned shows, and we intend to provide only the best of care to a small number of what we hope will be top show dogs throughout the country. We have six kennel runs, approximately five feet by 15 -20 feet, six feet in height, with insulated doghouses attached. The area where the animals are to sleep, eat and exercise is enclosed entirely with six foot high wire mesh. In addition to the wire fencing, we have already installed an electronic fence to which the animals are trained. We are anticipating additional wire fencing. The animals have fresh water 24 hours per day; waste is immediately removed; kennels are disinfected regularly, and our dogs receive the best veterinary care with our friend and long time veterinarian, Dr. Jim Windsor, at Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital.
