Medical Leave for FirefighterI CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: FEBRUARY 15, 2000 AGENDA ITEM: MEDICAL LEAVE FOR FIREFIGHTER AGENDA SECTION: CONSENT PREPARED BY: SCOTT AKER, FIRE CHIEF AGEN 0 , 6 ATTACILNIENTS: LETTER FROM FIREFIGHTER APPROVED B Dave Bailey has been on medical leave since Thanksgiving Day 1999. The city administrator, as is allowed by fire department personnel policy, approved sixty days of medical leave for him. On January 13, Dave requested an extension after a visit with his doctor. I recommended approval on January 14. Any time in excess of sixty days requires approval of the city council. As Dave indicates in his letter he will still have less than sixty days during this calendar year, so all of the time in 1999 and 2000 would be credited toward his time of service with the fire department. His hope is to come back on February 17. The extended leave is requested to continue until March 5, just in case the doctor does not approve Dave's return at his next office visit on February 16. RECOnNIENDED ACTION: MOTION BY CITY COUNCIL TO APPROVE AN EXTENSION OF DAVE BAILEY'S MEDICAL LEAVE UNTIL MARCH 5, 2000. COUNCIL ACTION: J V To: Scott Aker, Fire Chief From: Dave Bailey, Captain Date: 1/13/00 Re: Extension of current medical leave Scott, Due to the accident that occurred on Thanksgiving Day 1999,1 requested a medical leave for 60 days. The current leave that I am on ends on January 25"' 2000. On January 5 2000, 1 saw my doctor and he issued me the attached note, which states no fire fighting for 6 more weeks. That would put the date of my earliest return to be February 17 2000. 1 will be seeing my doctor on February 16 2000, and at that time he will determine if I am able to return to my duties as a firefighter. I am requesting an extension a — " -- end date of the leave at March 5 My total number of days for the leave in 2000 would be 70. 1 don't feel that I will need to use all of the days requested but would like to request them and have them available if the doctor does not give the OK on my next visit vrith him on February 16 2000. Once the Doctor gives me the OK, I would like to return the next Day (hopefully February 17 2000.). If you have any questions, feel free to give me a call ORTHOPAEDIC C ONSULTANTS, P.A. 7t A ...
