The Fire Department Personnel Policy requires City Council approval for appointment of the
Fire Department Assistant Chief. As policy requires, the position was posted at the fire station
and all firefighters were notified of the opening and had until January 17' to submit an
application for the position. At the time of application closing,Mike Haeg was the only applicant
for the position.
This is a recommendation to the City Council to appoint Mike Haeg to this position. Mike Haeg
is currently serving as Assistant Chief and his term will expire on March 1, 2000. Mike has held
this position for two years and the term is now for three years, so if appointed Mike's term would
expire in 2003.
Over the past two years Mike has done an outstanding job as Assistant Fire Chief and without
reservation I recommend him for the 3 year appointment.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION to appoint Mike Haeg as Assistant Chief for the Fire
Department for a period of March 1,2000 to March 1, 2003.
