Two styles and several "add -ons" were specified as bid alternates. The results of the bidding are summarized in the attached letter from Bonestroo. At the June 12, 2000 Utility Commission meeting, a motion was made and passed recommending Council award the bid to CB & I (water spheroid style, plus all "add -ons ") in the amount of $793,064. The East Side Water Tower, in the opinion of Staff, works toward the goal of business growth on the east side of Rosemount as well as providing for sound fixed management of the water distribution system. Staff feels, therefore, that this project is in keeping with the city's vision and mission statements and goals. Staff_ recommends award of the contract to CB & I Constructors in the amount of $793,064. RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO ADOPT A RESOLUTION RECEIVING BIDS AND AWARDING THE CONTRACT FOR THE EAST SIDE WATER TOWER, CITY PROJECT #302. COUNCIL ACTION: CITY OF ROSEMOUNT DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 2000 A RESOLUTION RECEIVING BIDS AND AWARDING CONTRACT FOR EAST SIDE WATER TOWER CITY PROJECT #302 BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Rosemount, Minnesota, as follows: 1. All bids on construction of the East Side Water Tower are hereby received and tabulated. 2. The bid of CB & I Constructors, in the amount of $793,064 for the construction of said improvements along with all alternates in accordance with the plans and specifications and advertisement for bids is the lowest responsible bid and shall be and hereby is accepted. 3. The Mayor sand Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with said bidder for the construction of said improvements and all alternates for and on behalf of the City of Rosemount. 4. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to return forthwith to all bidders the deposits made with their bids, except that the deposit of all successful bidder and the next two lowest bidders shall be retained until a contract has been executed. Bids were opened for the project stated above on May 31, 2000, 10:00 AM. Transmitted herewith are ten (10) copies of the bid tabulation for your information and file. Copies will also be distributed to each bidder. Two styles of elevated tanks were bid, a hydropillar (the style of the City's Connemara tank) and a water spheroid. The project documents allow the City to award either style of tank and also to accept or reject any of the bid alternates. The lowest bids for each style of tank and the engineer's estimate are tabulated below. Pitt Des Moines, Inc. (PDM) had the lowest bid for the hydropillar in the amount of $864,750.00 The low bid for the spheroid style was Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CB &n in the amount of $770,964.00. Alternates 1, 2, and 4 for the hydropillar would allow the City to use the area within the base of the tank for storage of equipment and materials. The total of these three items is $20,400. Because of the cone shaped based of the spheroid style, a large overhead door and condensate ceiling would not be provided.
