Medical Leave for FirefighterCITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: JUNE 20, 2000 AGENDA ITEM: MEDICAL LEAVE FOR FIREFIGHTER AGENDA SECTION: CONSENT PREPARED BY: SCOTT AKER, FIRE CHIEF AGEN 6 ATTACHMENTS: NONE APPROVED BY: In the fall of 1999 David Bailey was injured off duty and his injury necessitated a medical leave, which was extended until February 16, 2000. City policy allows for a firefighter to take up to 60 days of medical leave, per calendar year, with city administrator approval and no loss of time of service. To date, Dave has used 47 days. Dave is requesting, at this time, an additional 35 days of medical leave for some follow up procedures due to the accident. His leave would begin on June 6 and extend until July 10'. He may be able to return to duty prior to that time. Because this would put him over the 60 days of medical leave per year (he would be at a total of 82 days) it requires city council approval. The first 60 days of medical leave count toward his time of service but the additional 22 days would not. I recommend approval of this medical leave. RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION BY CITY COUNCIL TO GRANT A MEDICAL LEAVE TO DAVID BAILEY, A ROSEMOUNT FIREFIGHTER, BEGINNING JUNE 6, 2000 AND EXTENDING TO JULY 10, 2000. COUNCIL ACTION:
