FROM: Dan Schultz, Parks and Recreation Director
SUBJECT: Family Resource Center Update
The Family Resource Center officially opened in February of 1999. Since its opening there has been a
steady stream of activity taking place at the site. This update will provide a short summary of
highlights that have taken place over the last year.
Facility updates
• During the summer of 1999, play equipment, a basketball court and trails were added to the site
offering a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. Youth from the surrounding neighborhood
have assisted this past summer with cleaning up the park area. ,
• A preventive maintenance plan was initiated outlining building maintenance items to be carried out
on a daily, monthly or yearly basis.
Policies and Administration update
• The service providers are creating "house rules" that will clearly let all facility users know the
expected behavior.
Service Provider updates
• The service providers hold a "brown bag" monthly lunch meeting on the first Wednesday of each
month. Topics discussed are current and future services, site issues and provider updates.
• As part of CAC's lease they are required to provide an initial program report and an annual budget
report. In addition to the CAC report, I have asked all service providers to provide a report to the
Parks and Recreation Committee, which is the citizen advisory board mentioned in the CAC lease.
These reports will be presented to the committee on Monday, January 24, 2000.
• Attached is a list of providers and the services they are currently offering.
