Variance Request from Dakota County's Street Naming and Addressing OrdinanceCITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: SEPTEMBER 5, 2000 AGENDA ITEM : Variance Request from Dakota County's Street Naming and Addressing Ordinance AGENDA SECTION: CONSENT PREPARED BY: Gary D. Kalstabakken, Chief of Police AGENDA NO: ATTACHMENTS: None. Resolution will be passed out 9/5 pm APPROVED BY: The Council is being asked to pass the attached resolution to allow the main east -west street in the Evermoor Development to be named Evermoor Parkway. A resolution requesting a variance from Dakota County is needed because the City does abide by the county street naming ordinance and the street name " Evermoor Parkway" is not in compliance with the guidelines of the ordinance. The proposed name of Evermoor Parkway does have the support of staff. Other main roadways Shannon Parkway and Connemara Trail - in the area of the Evermoor development are also variances from the ordinance. Under county guidelines, the proposed street is suggested to be a numerical street, e.g. 132n Street, on the west side of Shannon Parkway. However, east of Shannon Parkway the street should be a named street. The variance will allow the entire length of the street to carry the same proposed name of Evermoor Parkway its entire length from Connemara Trail to Diamond Path. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the attached resolution requesting a variance for Evermoor Parkway from the Dakota County Uniform Street Naming and Addressing Ordinance. COUNCIL ACTION: CITY OF ROSEMOUNT DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA J RESOLUTION 2000- - A RESOLUTION REQUESTING A VARIANCE FROM THE DAKOTA COUNTY UNIFORM STREET NAMING AND ADDRESSING ORDINANCE WHEREAS, the Evermoor Development includes a minor collector street, proposed to be named Evermoor Parkway, that begins at Connemara Trail and proceeds through the development to Diamond Path, and WHEREAS, the street travels primarily in a north -south direction east of Shannon Parkway and primarily in an east -west direction west of Shannon Parkway, and WHEREAS, the proposed name of Evermoor Parkway allows the minor collector street to have the same name for the entire length of the roadway, and WHEREAS, the other existing collector streets intersecting with the proposed Evermoor Parkway are named outside the guidelines of the governing ordinance, and WHEREAS, the Dakota County Uniform Street Naming and Addressing Ordinance requires the request for a variance for street naming be submitted to Dakota County in the form of a City Council resolution; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Rosemount requests that Dakota County allow a variance for the naming of Evermoor Parkway, the minor collector street of the Evermoor Development project, which runs from Connemara Trail north and west to Diamond Path.
