The City of Rosemount and Dakota Electric purchased 175 trees. These trees were anywhere from 5' to 14' in height and up to 1" around. These trees were handed out to the first 175 residents of Rosemount on May 20, 2000. We were able to give away all of the trees and had to actually turn away a few residents. The Mayor of Rosemount read the Arbor Day Proclamation. This years Arbor Day Celebration was well received by the residents, we are already making plans to continue this type of celebration for 2001. As for other related arbor activities, the City of Rosemount staff worked diligently to save an oak grove after we received 12 inches of rain in a period of 5 hours on July 8t''. City staff worked around the clock for 3 days pumping water from affected areas in the city. Because of this storm, the City of Rosemount had to remove and replace 15 boulevard trees, as well as trimming damaged trees and woodchipping many branches and limbs that were knocked down during this storm. City staff also continued with the maintenance of boulevard trees, which included trimming and pruning. City staff also moved 15 trees from our tree nursery into newly developed parks, parks that have undergone major renovations and along County Road 42 to help with screening.
