The Trade and Economic Development Department of Minnesota promotes the accomplishments and
contributions that the manufacturers make to the economy of Minnesota. In order to identify and commend
these businesses the attached proclamation is recommended with the week long celebration of October 25—29.
During this time I plan to visit with many of our Rosemount manufacturing companies to express our gratitude
for the positive effects they have on our economy.
I ask that the proclamation be approved to give attention to"Minnesota Manufacturers Week" for October 25-
29, 1999.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the proclamation for"Minnesota Manufacturers
Week" October 25-29, 1999.
COUNCIL ACTION:
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Manufacturing has the largest total payroll of any business sector
in Minnesota. Providing $16 billion in 1996 wages, and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing produces $27.1 billion for the state economy and is
the second largest single share (18.9%) of our gross product, and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing exports brought nearly $9.53 billion into the
Minnesota economy in 1997, and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing provides high skill, high wage jobs which
significantly contribute to Minnesota's high standard of living and economic
vitality; and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing contributed nearly $216 million in corporate
income taxes in Minnesota, more than any other business sector, and almost 28 %
of total corporate income taxes in 1998;
THEREFORE, the City Council and Mayor of the City of Rosemount does
hereby proclaim the week of October 25-29, 1999, to be:
