As part of our participation in the Tree City USA program, we must meet standards set by the National Arbor
Day Foundation. One of the standards includes the observance of Arbor Day.
Attached is the proclamation by the City of Rosemount identifying May 15, 1999, to be Arbor Day and the
month of May to be Arbor Month. The Parks and Recreation Department will work in conjunction with the
Public Works staff and Dakota Electric to coordinate an Arbor Day Program and tree give away.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the proclamation identifying May 15, 1999 as Arbor Day
and the month of May as Arbor Month.

CITY OF ROSEMOUNT
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS: Native l�iinnesotans and early pioneers depended
upon existing forests to survive in an often harsh
yet beautiful land, as do Minnesota's current
residents and landowners; and
WHEREAS: The old-growth red and white pine forests in the
North, the mature hardwood forests of the
Southeast, and oak savannahs bordering the
prairies in the South and West continue to
change; and
WHEREAS: Citizens must become stewards of their own
environment by plannng, maintaining and
protecting trees so that the benefits trees provide
throughout their life cycles continue to improve
the quality of life that we as Minnesotans enjoy
and depend upon;
NOW, THEREFORE, I Cathy Busho ,
Mayor of the City of Rosemount, do hereby proclaim May I5, 1999
shall be obserued as "A.RBOR DAY" and the month of May to be
"ARBOR MONTH"in Rosemount, Minnesota.
Further, I urge all citizens to become more aware of the importance
of trees in their well being, to participate in tree planting programs
that will ensure a green Rosemount in decades to come, and to
plant, nurture, protect and urisely use Rosemount's great treasure
of trees.
