East-side Water Tower Update CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR DISCUSSION COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE: August 11, 1999 Agenda Item: East-side Water TowerJpdate Agenda No.: . 8 . Prepared By: Bud Osmundson Public Works Director/City Engineer Attachments: Letter and drawing from Bonestroo Approved By: The purpose of this item is mainly to determine the color and logo that the council desires to have on the new east-side water tower. The water tower will be easily seen from both CR 42 and STH 52. Please keep in mind the colors and logos on the two existing towers so that we can discuss and determine the appropriate colors and logos to be placed on the tower. Attached is a letter and drawings from Bonestroo showing the two styles of tanks that are typically constructed today. The Connemara water tower is the Hydropillar type. This style is slightly higher in cost, but does provide much more cold storage than does the Waterspheroid type. Both types will be bid so that we have a good competitive bidding situation. As an update, the land purchase for the tower site is scheduled to be on the August 17`" City Council meeting, as is the approval of the plans and specifications and the advertisement for bids. Bids will be received on September 15"' and, if Council so approves, a contract will be awarded on September 21St. The water tower should be complete and online by summer of 2000. Rosemount,MN 55068-4997 Attn: Mr. Bud Osmundson Re: 0.5 MG Elevated Tank BRA File No. 42499101 Dear Bud: Attached is a sketch of the 0.5 MG Reservoir in a Hydropillar and Waterspheroid design. As discussed,we usually bid both styles for competition purposes. The City can choose the sfyle of tank to be constructed. The hydropillar can be constructed with an overhead door if the base is to be used for Storage. A condensate ceiling would be very desirable in this case. We recently bid a 0.5 MG Tank in Forest Lake Township and the tank costs were as follows: Sle Base Bid Hydropillar(PDM) $762,720 Waterspheroid(CB& $695,639 This tank was 164 feet high so it is a little more expensive then Rosemount's tank. The garage door, condensate ceiling, and a concrete floor inside the hydropillar in styles, particularly if the base azea is to be used for storage. The City must be willing to pay the difference if the hydropillar style is choosen. Yours very truly, BONESTROO,ROSENE, ANDERLIK&ASSOCIATES,INC. ,, F Richard W. Foster P.E.
