I will be participating in the Mayors March for Mammograms at the Mall of American on October 17, 1997,
along with many other female mayors from Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Health has started a
statewide comprehensive breast and cervical cancer control program including health offices for screening at the
Mall of American. These screenings are also available to women with financial barriers through over 200
participating health care facilities throughout Minnesota. This year alone 720 women in Minnesota will die
from cancer.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Mayor to proclaim October as National Breast Cancer Awareness '
Month and October 17, as the National Mammography Day.
