Well #9 City Project #273A " CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: January 7, 1997 , i AGENDA ITEM: Payment #4, Weil #9 AGENDA SECTI(111: I City Project #273A Consent I s ' PREPARED BY: Bud Osmundson AGEND{:.p A City Engineer/Public Works Director C ATTACHMENTS: Payment Voucher #4 APPROVED . This is a request for council consideration for payment #4 and final for City project #273A, Well #9 Construction. The amount requested is 547,656.35. Staff recommends payment as requested. The contractor, Keys Well Drilling, completed the drilling and development of Well #9 at a final cost of 5158,024,50. The original bid amount was 5152,540.00. As explained in the ietter from Dick Foster, P.E. from Bonestroo, the 55,500 spent in extra cost for the wetl was spent on development of the well and change in casing size. Bath of these changes should make Well #9 a larger capacity well than originally designed. Most Jordan Aquifer wells which are drilled today #or municipalities are in the 1D00-1200 GPM range. However, with the added 55,500 in construction, Wel1 #9 should produce 1600 GPM. We do anticipate a change order for higher capacity pumping equipment which will be forthcoming for the pump house contractor. The added 400 to 600 GPM could delay the drilling of an additional well for a number of years and for a total cost of less than S20,000. Well dritling is an inexact science and we were lucky to encounter the right geologic formation and a good driller which allowed us to have a well which can produce almost 50% more water than anticipated: RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve Payment #4 and final in the amount of $47,656.35 to Keys Well Drilling for Well #9 construction Cit Pro'ect #273A Y 1 COUNCIL ACTION: 1 Bonestroo,Rosene,Anderlik and Associates,Mc..is an Alfirmative Artion/fqua/Opportunrty Emp/oyer . BO, /S{.COQ Principats:Otto G.Bonestroo.P.E.•Joseph C.Antlerlik,P.E.•Marvin L.Sorvala,P.E.• RicharC E.Turner.P.E.•Gienn R.Cook.P.E.• Thomas E.Noyes,P.E.•Robert G.Schunicht.P.E.• ROC Jerry A.Bourdon,P.E.•Roberc W:RoSene.P.E.antl Susan M.Ebedin,C.P.A.,Senior Gonsultanu J Anderlik & Associate Principa/s:Howartl A.Sanford.P.E.•Kerth A.Gordon.P.E.•Robert R.Ptefferle.P.E.• Richard W.foster.P.E.•Dav1d O.Loskota,P.E.Robert G.Russek.A.I.A.•Mark A.Hanson.P.E.• Michael T.Rautmann,P.E•Ted K.Fieltl,P.E.•Kenneth P.Anderson;P.E.•Mark R.Rolfs.P.E.• A0}^ Sidney P.Williamson.P.E..L.S.•Robert E Kotsmith i a.c Oflices:St.PauCRochester,Wiilmar and St.Cloud,-MN•Mequon,WI Engineers &Architects December 6, I996 ,;.. Mr. Bud Osmundson 9s6v City of Rosemount 2875 145th Street W Rosemount,MN 55068 Re: Final Pay Request Well No. 9 City Project No. 273 BRA File No.42407 Dear Bud: Enclosed is Request for Payment No. 4 & Final along with the Minnesota IC-134 withholding form for the Well No. 9 project. The work has been completed and we recommend that final payment be made to the Contractor. The final payment amount is approximately $5,500 (3.6%) more than the contract amount. This is due to finishing the well with the larger 24 inch casing and that the development quantities were higher than estimated on the bid proposal. The change from an 18 inch well to a 24 inch well was decided last August and accounts for $2,900 of the increase. Approximately twice the estimated amount of sandstone was removed to form the well cavity. Although, most of this increase was offset by less air surging and test pumping costs, the remaining cost increase was due to sandstone removal. It was anticipated that Well No. 9 would produce 1,000 - 1,200 g:p.m. as do the City's other wells. Well No. 9 actually produces 1,600 - 1,$00 g.p.m., primarily due to the additional development work. We are presently obtaining costs from the Pumphouse Contractor to install larger capacity pumping equipment. A higher capacity at Well No. 9 could delay the necessity of constructing Well No. 10 a few years. If you have any questions, please ca11 me at(612) 604-4840.
