This is a request for Council to consider the hiring of Julie Cummans for the position of police officer. This
recommendation comes to you following a hiring process which included testing 300 candidates, sending out
approximately 200 applications, receiving back 135 applications and interviews. Ms. Cummans was selected by
Police Chief Knutsen, Lieutenant Kuhns and myself after initially interviewing 14 candidates.
Ms. Cummans has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mankato State University in Law Enforcement and
Corrections and was certified in skills at Range Technical College. She currently works at Anoka County Adult
Corrections Center in Lino Lakes. Ms. Cummans has accepted a contingent offer of employment and will start
when a successful background check, pre-employment physical, psychological test and drug testing have been
completed.
