I would like to discuss with you the possibility of hiring nine firefighters this year. Interviews were recently
completed for the firefighter position. Nine were interviewed, and at this point in time, all nine qualify for the
position. There are funds to hire five this year since three positions were budgeted for in 1997 and two
employees have resigned. If the city hired a11 nine, the cost would be an additional $4,500 to $6,000. Since this
amount would possibly be over budget in the fire department budget, I would like to receive your direction on
this matter.
