At last weeks Utility Commission meeting, authorization was provided to begin the
Engineering process for our next well, Well #9. Previously it was identified in the Capital
Improvement Plan that Well #9 be on line by 1997. Well engineering, permitting, drilling
and development and pump house construction takes approximately a year to a year and
a half. Therefore, to have Well #9 online with the water system by Spring of 1997, we
have to begin now preparing for it.
In the current Comprehensive Water System Plan, it identified the location of our future
well sites. To provide the City with the greatest flexibility in future treatment plant and
process locations, it is recommended that Well #9 be located either in Jaycee Park or on
the outlot owned by the City approximately two blocks north on the east side of
Shannon Parkway. Both locations have their advantages and disadvantages which need
to be investigated further prior to siting the exact location. We will begin meeting with
Mr. Dick Foster, P.E. of Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik and Associates who will design this
facility, and decide on which location is the most advantageous for the City. The Park
and Recreation Committee will be addressed if the Jaycee Park site is chosen to be more
suitable and cost efficient. In either case, a neighborhood meeting will be held with
adjacent property owners to apprise them of the forthcoming well construction. Well #9
will be totally funded from the Water Core Fund, Fund Number 605.
