Bids were opened on Wednesday, March 20, 1996 for the Fire Station Repair
Improvements. This is the replacement/repair of the outside walls on the existing Fire
Station on Brazil Avenue. Last September we opened bids on the same project and the
bids were much higher than our budget would allow and therefore we rejected all bids at
that time.
The City received six bids on March 20th and the Bid Tabulations are attached. The low
bid on the Base Bid and including all Alternates was Northfield Construction Company.
The Base Bid of $97,375 was $47,525 less than the low bid received last September.
The Alternate bids which totaled $35,500 were also excellent bids.
The Base Bid consists of constructing an exterior insulation finish system (EIFS, a brand
name of which is Drivit) and replacing of doors and windows as necessary which will
seal the building from the numerous existing water leaks. The Alternates 1 thru 4
respectively were replacement of the heating system for the bay area, replacement of the
HAVC system for the office area, concrete pad replacement and painting of the interior
bay area.
Staff is recommending the award of the contract for the Base Bid and Alternates 1 thru
4 to Northfield Construction Company. The existing heating systems for the building are
original equipment of the 1972 vintage building. They do require replacement. The
remaining two Alternatives are also excellent prices and are needed on the building. The
repairs are projected to begin in May and should be completed by July. The funding will
come from the Building CIP Fund, Number 202. Staff is recommending the City receive
the bids and award the contract to Northfield Construction company.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO ADOPT A RESOLUTION RECEIVING BIDS AND
AWARDING CONTRACT FOR THE FIRE STATION REPAIR IMPROVEMENTS TO NORTHFIELD
CONSTRUCTION COMPANY IN THE AMOUNT OF $132,875..

RESOLUTION 1996 -
A RESOLUTION RECEIVING BIDS AND AWARDING CONTRACT
FOR FIRE STATION REPAIR IMPROVEMENTS
BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Rosemount, Minnesota, as follows:
1. All bids on construction of Fire Station Repair Improvements are hereby
received and tabulated.
2. The bid of Northfield Construction Company in the amount of $132,875 for
the construction of said improvements in accordance with the plans and
specifications and advertisement for bids is the lowest responsible bid and shall
be and hereby is accepted.
3. The Mayor and Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a
contract with said bidder for the construction of said improvements for and on
behalf of the City of Rosemount.
4. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to return forthwith to all
bidders the deposits made with their bids, except that the deposit of all
successful bidder and the next two lowest bidders shall be retained until a
contract has been executed.
