Attached for City Council review and consideration are revised organization charts for the Public Works
Department and Community Development Department. Within these departments I am recommending that a
public works supervisor position and the senior planner position be eliminated from the respective departments.
There are currently two supervisors who manage the various operations and staff in the public works
maintenance department. Since the staffing level of the maintenance workers is still small with fifteen full-time
employees, there have been duplication of responsibilities and some confusion in scheduling staff and equipment
for various projects.
With regards to the senior planner position, two planners rather than three is adequate to handle the work load of
the Community Development Department. The work currently performed by the senior planner will be
performed by existing staff and consultants, if needed.
During the review and discussion of the 1997 operating budget, these two positions as well as other positions
were eliminated or changed to a part-time status.
