Bid Award for Erickson Community SquareCITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: AUGUST 20, 1996 AGENDA ITEM: Bid Award For Erickson Community Square AGENDA SECTION: Old Business PREPARED BY: Jim Topitzhofer, Parks and Recreation and AGENDA NO.VMS Community Center Director. A tTtm # 5 sm. B r ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: Jack Anderson of JEA Architects and staff conducted bid opening proceedings for Erickson Community Square on August 1, 1996. Five bids were received ranging from $216,321 to $278,259. Lowest bid was offered by CM Construction Company. Total project cost with the lowest bid is calculated at $260,090. The total project cost is $30,090 over the anticipated cost. Most of this unexpected cost is a result of the soil test, requiring excavation of 1,000 cubic yards of inadequate soil and replacing it with compacted soil. There are three suggested alternatives in proceeding with the construction of Erickson Community Square: 1) Accept the bids and award CM Construction Company the bid of $216,321. Fund the $30,090 difference from park improvement funds. 2) Instruct the project architect to redesign and downsize the building to lower the total project cost down to $230,000. Rebid the revised design as soon as possible. 3) Instruct the project architect to complete a list of project deducts by scaling back materials, and keep the building the same size (1,550 W). Fund the difference from park improvement funds. The Parks and Recreation Committee will formulate a recommendation on this issue at their regular meeting on August 19, 1996. I will present their recommendation as well as pros and cons of each alternative. RECOMMENDED ACTION: COUNCIL ACTION:
