Appointment of Building Official Position CITY OF ROSFVIOUNT EXECUTIVE SItPvIlVIARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCII.MEETING DATE: November 7, 1995 AGENDA ITEM: APPOINTMENT OF BUII.DING OFFICIAL AGENDA SECTION: CONSENT PREPARED BY: THOMAS D. BURT, AGENDAit A ) CITY ADMINISTRATOR i' 1• ATTACffiVIENTS: NONE APPROVED BY: This is a recommendation for City Council to appoint Paul Heimkes as the city building official. Mr. Heimkes has been employed as a building inspector for the city since October, 1987. Since I have ha.d the plea.sure to work with Mr. Hei.mkes, he has displayed to me his qualifications for the building official position. On August 7, 1995, he was assigned the duties of interim building off'icial; and duri.ng this time he has done an excellent job. When Ron Wasmund was the community development director, he also assumed the title of building official. Since the new community development director is not certified as a building official, it is necessary to appoint a building official. Paul Heimkes meets the qualifications for this position. This position is an exempt, nonunion supervisory position, and his salary is in accorda.nce with the salary range for the building official position. I am recommending that the six month probationary period be retroactive to when he assumed the responsibilities of interim buildi.ng official. At the end of his probationary period, if Mr. Heimkes or the city determines this appointment is not working out, I recommend that he be able to return to his position of building inspector. RECONIlVNDED ACTION: MOTION TO APPOINT PAULIlVIIES TO TIPOSITION OF BUII..DING OFFICIAL EFFECTIVE NOVENIBER 8, 1995 AND THAT HIS PROBATIONARY PERIOD BE RETROACTIVE TO AUGUST 7, 1995.
