Lacelle Cordes fmm the Parks and Recrea.tion Department requested a proclamation by the Mayor be
approved by City Council for Arbor Day and Arbor Month to show the importance of trees in our daily
lives. Environmental issues have become increasingly urgent and the proclamation gives some direction
each and everyone of us can contribute in some way to unprove pollution, air and water purification, soil
and energy conservation, and wildlife protection.
RECOl��V�NDED ACTION:
MOTION to coneur with the Proclamation to have "Arbar Day" on Apri128 and to proclaim May as
"Arbor Month" in Rosemount, Minnesota.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS: Minnesota's forest treasures were a significant
attraction to early settlers because of their
usefulness and the beautiful environment they
provided; and
WHEREAS: Trees are a vital resource enriching our lives by
purifying air and water, helping conserve soiZ and
energy, serving as recreationaZ settings, providing
habitat for� wildlife of aI1 kinds and making
Rosemount more livable; and
WHEREAS: Human activities such as construction damage and
pollution, as well as drought, disease and inaects,
threaten our trees, creating the need for concerted i�
action to ensure the future of Rosemount's trees; ',
and '
WHEREAS: The next decade wi11 be one emphasizing the
environment and the citizens of Rosemount will be
able to positively impact the world problems like
"global warrning" by 2oca11y planting �rees and
ensuring that these trees are nurtured, protected
and wisely used in the years to ahead; and
WHEREAS: The message of Earth Day whose twenty fifth
anniversary is this year, is sti11 strong, teaching
children and adults alike that trees are related ta
a11 components of the environment - aix, water,
soil and wildlife; and
WHE.REAS: Each year on the last Friday in April - Arbor Day -
the citizens of Rosernount pay special attention to
the wonderful treasure that our trees represent and
dedicate themselves to the continued health of our
cities trees.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, E B McMenomy , Mayor of the
City of Rosemount, do hereby proclaim April 28, Z995 to be
"ARBOR DAY" and the month of N1ay to be "ARBOR MONTH'� In
Rosemount, MN.
Further, I urge a11 ci tizens to become more aware of the imp
orta
nce
of trees to their we11 being, to participate in tree pZanting
programs that will ensure a green Rosemount in decades to come, and
to plant, nurture, protect and wisely use Rosemount's great
treasure of trees.
