The Violence Prevention Initiative of Dakota County for Healthy Communities is working together with
groups, communities, and businesses to plan and implement a countywide violence prevention campaign
during the month of October. October is designated as Violence-Free Minnesota Month and Domestic
Abuse Awazeness Month. In addition, October 12 is designated as the nationally recognized Turn Off the
Violence_Dav. The goal of this initiative is to develop and promote countywide strategies that promote safe
and secure homes, schools, workplaces, public places and communities.
Activities and events on October will center around the theme - Building Bridges...Peace by Peace. During
the week of October 8, a coordinated effort will take place with other metro counties to raise awareness of
the impact of violence. Citizens are encoura.ged the build actual Peace Bridges in their school, community,
or workplace. Rosemount Partnership Pro�ram is responding to this invitation by dedicating a Teen Night
to violence prevention in October and is planning additional special events.
Mr. John Edward will be present to introduce this initiative to the Ciry Council. The City Council is
encouraged to adopt the attached resolution, supporting the campaign.

RESOLUTION 1995 -
BUII..DING BRIDGES... PEACE BY PEACE
WHEREAS, the residents of the City of Rosemount war.t their homes, schools, faith
communities, workplaces, public areas, and individual communities to be places where a11
feel safe and live in peace; and
WIiEREAS, it requires the actions of all to eliminate violence from our lives and
communities; and
WHEREAS, we all have opportunity to educate ourselves and our children about healthy
ways to resolve conflicts and to respond to anger; and
WHEREAS, October, 1995 is designated as Violence-Free Minnesota Month and Domestic
Abuse Awareness Month, with October 12 as nationally recognized Turn Off The Violence
Day; and
WHEREAS, the Dakota Council for Healthy Communities invites individuals and
community groups to participate actively in the Building Bridges...Peace by Peace campaign.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Rosemount
hereby declare its support for the "BUII.DING BRIDGES...PEACE BY PEACE" campaign
and pledge to support and sustain prevention efforts in our communities.
