Prohibit Sliding at Connemara Park CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SLJvIlVIARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: February 7, 1995 AGENDA ITEM: Prohibit Sliding at Connemara Park AGENDA SECTION: New Business PREPARED BY: Jim Topitzhofer, Community Center and Pazks AGENDA ' .t,. $ and Recreation Director. 7. ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: / A resident notified our office that his five year old son was injured while sliding at Connemara Park on January 28, 1995. According to a report received on January 30, 1995, the child struck a cedar fence, located on a snow bank at the West end of the park. The child was taken to a hospital and was later released. I observed the site and have determined the fence poses a possible safety hazard and should be removed. Because of frozen ground, it is not feasible to remove the fence at this time. Therefore, prohibiting sliding in Connemara Park is appropriate. Furthermore, because sliding in this park may add considerable risk to I participants and the City, I am recommending to prohibit sliding in Connemara Park permanently. After consulting with staff and the City Attomey, I have outlined a plan of action below: 1. Sliding at Connemara Park is officially prohibited. Signs will be posted on January 31, 1995. 2. Maintenance workers will be instructed to sand the hill on Friday, February 3 and 10, to further discourage sliding during the initial weekends. 3. Police Officers will be notified of our action and will be asked to patrol the park frequently. If a person is seen sliding on the hill, the officer will inform them that sliding is prohibited. : 4. A newsrelease will be given to the press after the meeting. 5. A portion of the fence will be removed before the next snow season, or as an altemative, trees can be planted in this area if funds are available. RECOMMENDED ACTION: None, informational only.
