Last fall, the Utility Commission authorized Staff to request
proposals for the purposes of investigating the City' s sanitary sewer
and water user rates. At the December 13, 1993 meeting the Commission
accepted the proposal from the firm of Short, Elliot, Hendrickson to
perform this study.
The Commission, Staff and Dave Simons, from SEH, have worked on this
issue since December. We now are comfortable enough to come forward
with a recommendation to discuss this subject with City Council prior
to Council approval of new rates. Since this is a very important
issue for the City, the Commission is requesting that the Council set
a special meeting to meet jointly with the Utility Commission to
discuss the recommendations for sewer and water rates. The Commission
has two dates picked out, either April 28th or May 9th at 6 :30 p.m. in
the City Council Chambers . The Council and Commission will be
provided a summary with recommendations prior to that meeting date.
Staff recommends that Council set a special meeting for April 28th or
May 9th for the purposes of discussing water and sewer rates .
RECODIlKENDED ACTION: MOTION TO SET A SPECIAL JOINT MEETING BETWEEN THE
CITY COUNCIL AND THE UTILITY COMMISSION FOR THE PURPOSES OF DISCUSSING
SEWER AND WATER USER RATES ON APRIL 28TH (MAY 9TH) AT 6 :30 P.M. IN THE
COUNCIL CHAMBERS .
