Du�ing the 1994 budget process a great deal of discussion by staff dealt with ADA projects relating to the park
system and with upgrades dealing with some safety recommendations. Council supported the idea of moving
ahead with some upgrades. A systematic approach to the upgrades was to be worked out.
A majority of the play areas and parks were evaluated. Earl F. Andersen, Inc. was selected to complete this study.
This was due to the fact that they have supplied the equipment to those areas. Because of continued liability by
the supplier Earl F. Andersen will also be the firm to complete the upgrades.
At a later date, additional evaluations of play areas will be completed. The companies that supplied the equipment
will be asked to complete safety and ADA upgrade recommendations.
This request is for authority to move ahead with safety upgrades to be performed by Ea�l F. Andersen in Jaycee,
Erickson, Kidder, Camfield, Biscayne, Dallara, Winds, and Schwarz parks. The cost estimates are identified on the
attached sheet.
Funds for these upgrades would come from the Parks and Recreation operating budget. The 519,597.56 would be
charged to account #1 01-45 1 00-01-409. Those funds became available in our operating budget due to the fact
that we have not hired an Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation to replace Lisa Jost following her resignation.
This proposal should be considered as a part of the upgrade process for ADA and safety recommendations for our
parks system. Other requests will be brought before you as the projects are put together. By taking this approach
to upgrades, we would spread out the costs of ihe upgrades and not put a major burden on our present finances to
complete them.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
MOTION to support the use of 519,597.56 from the Parks and Recreation operating budget to complete
recommended safety upgrades in Jaycee, Erickson, Kidder, Camfield, Biscayne, Dallara, Winds, and Schwarz
parks.
