We have concluded the process of hiring a senior planner. We received 30
� ,
applications which were reviewed and ranked according to education,
experience, and veteran status. The top six, which included Rick Pearson
' were invited in for interviews . From these six, three, again including
i Rick were invited back for a second interview. The three finalists were
all very impressive ma.king the selection very difficult to make_ The final
choice was made based on years of experience, professional certification,
and educational accomplishments.
The position has been offered to and accepted by Andrew Mack. Andrew has
eleven years of experience in the planning field. He is American Institute
of Certified Planners (AICP} certified, and has his masters degree from the
University of Texas. Pending council approval Andrew will start work on
November 7. He and Rick (with his landscape architect degree) will make a
solid planning team.
The details of the job offer are spelled out in the attached offer letter.
RECOb�ENDED ACTION: Motion approving the hiring of Andrew Mack for the
position of Senior Planner according to the terms of the offer letter
and conditioned upon successfully completing an employment physical and
driving record check.

Dear Andrew;
This letter shall confirm the verbal offer for employment that I
' extended to you earlier today. We are extremely excited about
your acceptance of the affer.
The position being offered is Senior Planner. It is a non-union,
exempt position with supervisory responsibility in the Community
Development Department. The starting pay is $35, 415 annually.
- The position range is currently $35,415 to $ 41, 307. A list of
the benefits will be provided under separate cover by Susan
� Walsh. -
As we discussed the position is being offered conditioned on you
successfully passing an employment physical and having a
completed driving record check. It is my understanding that
between the two options of having your family physician or the
City' s physician do the physical, you prefer to have the City' s
physician do it. We can arrange for that appointment if you give
us a convenient time or you ma.y arrange the appointment yourself
by calling 423-4114 . After your appointment has been arranged
please call Susan Walsh to set a convenient time to perform the
drivers license check and complete the necessary W-4 and
enrollment papers.
I will be presenting my recommendation to the council on November
1, 1994 . Pending their approval I look forward to your first day
of work on November 7, 1994 . Office hours are 7:30 to 4:00 . You
ma.y park any place in the lower level parking lot except the
spaces marked for handicap or police business . We will present
you with a key for the employee entrance as part of the
orientation and introduction the first day.
