The p�operty in question is approximately 2.3 acres in size and is immediately adjacent to the Shannon Oaks subdivision. There is a permanent "basement" house on this parcel with a septic system and weil, plus other minor structures on the property. We have had reports in the past of a failing septic system which denigrates the water body directly west of this property. The purpose of acquisition would be three-fold. First, the house could be demolished and the septic system removed, which will help clean up the local environment. Demofition and well closure is estimated to cost 55,000. Secondiy, the property could be used for � additional ponding capacity for the water body on the east side. Earfier this year we studied a flooding probiem of that water body and by excavating to the east it is possible that we may alleviate that problem. Third{y, a sale of this property coufd be made and the City could receive 530,000 - $50,000 for that parcel as a buildable lot p{us a higher value home on that site will benefit the City through higher property taxes. Staff recommends City acquire the property through the tax forfeiture proceedings. RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO DIRECT STAFF TO ACQUIRE THE ABOVE DESCRIBED PROPERTY THROUGH TAX FORFEITURE.
