Last fall preliminary grant applications were submitted for those projects, along with other potential projects, to the DNR Grant Office by the Parks and Recreation Department. 1. Biraer Pond Land Acauisitian: A grant request was submitted for matching funds to be used to purchase Birger Pond and adjacent propert° totaling approximately 23 acres. Approximately 11 acres of this ponding area is presently a part of the parks system. The land acquisition proposed is in addition to that park land. This proposal for funding assistance waufd be submitted in a collaborative effort by the Parks and Recreation Department and the Public Works Department. The land acquired would be used by the Public Works Department for a holding pond site and by the Parks and Recreation Department as a recreational site. 2. Prairie Area North of Carrolls Woods: Located on the northern boarder of Carrolts Woods and western boarder of Schwarz Park is an area of approximately 20 acres identified in the Parks Master Plan that should be added to the park system.
