Dwayne Kuhns ( t �•{�� ATTACHMENTS: NONE APPROVED BY: The Department of Public Safety is seeking proposals from municipal and county law enforcement agencies to conduct publicized overtime enforcement projects adressing the issues of impaired driving and passenger protection use (SAFE & 50BER) . The US/DOT National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the Department's Office of Traffic Safety plans to have up to $300, 000.00 available to fund "SAFE & SOBER" efforts in local cammunities. The Rosemount Police Department has applied for such a grant to fund enhanced enforcement efforts in the areas of seat belt compliance and alcohol enforcement. The only requirement of this grant, should we receive it, would be that we have start up funds available as the grant funds are paid on a cost reimbursement basis. The purpose of this grant is to enhance our present traffic enforcement with overtime enforcement hours, specifically targeting times and places that will maximize impaired driving and selt belt enforcement. The number of grants funded will be determined by the number, type and quality of applications received. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the Police Department's participation in the "SAFE & SOBER" program should the grant proposal be accepted. COONCIL ACTION: CITY OF ROSEMOUNT DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 1994- 109 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF GRANT AGREE;IV�NT WITH THE OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY FOR THE PROGRAM SAFE AND SOBER COMMU1vITIES WHEREAS, the Department of Public Safety is seeking to conduct publicized overtime enfarcement projects addressing the issues of impaired driving and passenger protection use under the program Safe and Sober; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rosemount agrees that the Rosemount Police Department would use this grant to fund enhanced enforcement efforts in the areas of seat belt compliance and alcohol enforcement. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rosemount supports the authorization to enter into a grant agreement with the Office of Traffic Safety in the Minnesota. Department of Public Safety for the program entitled Safe and Sober Communities. BE IT FIJRTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of Rosemount, E.B. McMenomy, is hereby authorized to execute and sign such grant agreement and amendments as are necessary to implement the project on behalf of the City of Rosemount.
