Letters of resignation have been submitted by Planning Commissioners
McDermott and Gundacker. Patrick McDermott is being transferred by
his employer out-of-state and Kurt Gundacker' s current job assignment
requires extensive out-of-town travel . Mr. Gundacker has served on
the Commission since 1991 and his term was to expire in January I995.
Mr, McDermott was appointed this year and his term was through January
1996 . Their contributions will be missed greatly by the Planning
Commission and staff.
Both commissioners have agreed to serve, if possible, until new
commissioners can be appointed. Since a quorum is required for the
commission to eonduct business, it is very critical that the City
Council take steps to fill these positions immediately. The
appointments will fill out the remainder of the terms for these two
vacancies.
The following schedule for recruitment and selection is proposed:
Tuesday August 3 Accept Resignations
Saturday August 7 Publish Openings in Newspaper
Friday August 20 Application Deadline 4 : 00 p.m.
Saturday, am August 28 City Council interviews appJ.icants and
makes appointments to Commission.

Recommended Aetion: A motion to accept the resignation of
Commissioners Gundacker and McDermott and to proceed with the
Commissioner selection process as outlined above,

Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
I would like ta thank the City Council for agpointing me to the
Planning Commission. It is a very interestir�g position, and has
given me added respect far the work being done by, the City, the
Council, and the various commissions.
Due to a promotion and transfer I will have to resign my position
effective August 31st. I will attempt to attend Planninq ' '
Commission meetings until either a repiacement is named or the end �
of August. Again I would like to thank the City Cauncil for
affording me this opportunity.

As program manager and coasultant with the Veteran's Health
Ad.m�nistratian in total quality management my travel schedule ha�
nvt permitted me the flexibility to become as�uvolved with planni.ng
commissian activities as I would hope. In fact,it is very dz�"icult to insure
I can plan my schedule to be an towm for our�'uesday eveaai.ng raeetuags. My
i.n.ability to do even the min;n+um is not fair to other Commissivn members
and to the eity.
I will tzy to attend what meetiags I can until a repla,cement ca�.be appointed.
I wou2d like to thank you fox the ogportunity to serve, and wauld certainly b�
