AGENDA ITEM: AGENDA SECTION:
EXPENDITURE FOR FIRE DEPT. STRESS TESTS CONSENT

ATTACiBNTS: AP , OVE B .
BID
This item is a request for authorization to proceed with stress tests for
approximately one-third of the fire department. We rotate the fire
department through this stress testing on a three-year cycle. This year we
only have 9 persons who would be in need of taking their stress test.
All of our stress tests, in the past, were done by Fairview Ridges Hospital
in Burnsville with the exception of those that were done in 1992 . During
1992 we engaged the services of South Suburban Medical Center in Farmington
because they had a lower bid for these services.
As Dr. Detlefsen s office followed up and looked at the results of aur
stress tests he indicated that, in his opinion, we were not getting equal
service from South Suburban Medical Center as we had been getting from
Fairview Ridges in Burnsville. Farmington is simply doing a stress test,
whereas Burnsville is doing a stress test and also giving us cardio-
pulmonary testing results along with a measurement of the amount o oxygen
being used during all of those tests . This year the cost is the same at
both locations . For that reason we would be going with Fairview Ridges
Hospital in Burnsville at a cost af $225 . 00 per firefighter and with 9
firefighters taking the test the total cost for testing this year wouid be
$2025 . 00 .
Money for this particular expenditure has been budgeted in
Account #101-42210-01-305 .
RECOIII++IENDED ACTION:
Nlotion to authorize the fire department to spend $2025 . 00 to provide
stress tests for 9 firefighters with the expenditure coming from
Account #101-42210-01-305.
