TRAINING CONSENT PREPARED BY: AGENDA Na�EI� � � SCOTT AKER, FIRE CHIEF �� ATTACHMENTS: R� D NONE � �c.� This item is a request for authorization to spend $5,945 on the necessary on-going training of the fire department for 1993. Regular on-going training for the fire department which requires outside instructors inelude the following: 1• FIREFIGHTER I - Firefighter I class would be for 9 new persons we ue adding during the next year. The class is offered on a regular basis by the Dakota County Technical College. The cost of the class is $185 per person which would bring the totat to $1665 for 9 people. Money has been budgetetl in Account #101-42210-01-308. 2. FIRST RESPONDER - The First Responder class is a 40-hour class which is given to all new members of the fire department. After that time, members go through a 16-hour refresher course every other year. We are anticipating the need to send 9 people to this fu11 40-hour course which is offered agaui by the Dakota County Technical CoIlege or through Divine Redeemer. The cost of the class is approximately $1$5 per student and with 9 people attending the total eost for this training would be $1665.00. Money has been budgeted in Account #101-42210-01-308. 3• FLAZARDOUS MATERIAI,S TRAIIVING - This class is a 45-hour class which is required by all persons who would be responding to any type of a hazazdous materials incident. This class is offered by the Dakota Counry Technicat College. T'he approximate cost of the class including all materials, books and handouts is $185.00 per student. We would have 10 people in need of taking this class during 1993 for a total of$1850. Money has been budgeted in Account #101-42210-01-308. 4• FIRST RESPONDER REFRESHER - Approximately one-half of the fire department is in need of this re- certification class each year. This class is provided on a flat fee basis by Divine Redeemer/Healtheast at a cost of$450. Approximately 15 persons will be attending this class in 1993. Again, money has been budgeted in Account #101-42210-01-3Q8. 5. STATE CERTIFICATION - Upon completion of Firefighter I training, all perspective regular firefighters are required to undergo a state certification test. We will have 9 persons in need of this certification during 1993. At $35.00 per person that would be a cost of$315. Money has been budgeted in Account #101-42210-01-331. T'hese items would be the regular on-going training required of firefighters during 1993. RECOI�II�lENDED ACTION: Motion to authorize the fire department to spend $5,945.00 during the eourse of 1993 for on-going basic training/education requirements. COUNCIL ACTION:
