This is a request for Council consideration to approve Staff's recommendation to hire a
Maintenance Level I, Street Division person. Authorization for posting and advertising
was approved on August 3, 1993. This is a new position accounted far in the 1993
Public Works Operating Budget with a beginning date of October of 1993. Due to the
fact that the City is operating without an Administrator and Planning Director we have not
compfeted the application review and interviewing for the position until now.
The City received 73 applications for this Maintenance Level I position. This number was
reduced to five (5) people for interviewing through a point system which allocated pants
for experience and skills. Staff interviewed five (5) people which had good quaiifications
for this position.
It is our recommendation to approve the hiring of Mr. Vernon LaBeau, Jr. for this position.
Mr. LaBeau has a Class A drivers license and has extensive experience working for
contractors and trucking firms. He has extensive experience with street maintenance and
construction tasks and can operate many types of heavy equipment.
The salary range for this position, which would begin in 1994, begins at $10.06 an hour.
The candidate would begin at this rate and would be on a 6 month probationary period.
The candidate would then progress through the satary range according to the Union
contract.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO APPROVE THE HIRING OF VERNON LaBEAU AS
MAINTENANCE LEVEL I, STREET DIVISION PERSONNEL, EFFECTIVE JANUARY 10, 1994
SUBJECT TO THE PASSING OF THE PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL AND THE DRIVER'S
LICENSE CHECK.
