Dakota County and watershed management organizations in Dakota County
are initiating collaborative efforts for water resource education
efforts.
The growing concerns for quantity and quality of ground water supplies
for drinking water emphasize the need to educate residents about
conservation and protection measures.
These needs have been discussed with staff and the Utility Commission.
Education efforts are strongly endorsed by both. There are plans for
educational programs being developed by Public Works and the Utility
Commission.
The Utility Commission and staff urge your approval and passing of the
attached resolution.

RESOLUTION 1993 -
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING
DAKOTA COUN7Y WATER RESOURCES EDUCATION PLAY
POUCY STATEMENT
WHEREAS, the protection of water resources in Dakota County is essential to maintaining
and enhancing the quality of life in the County; and
WHEREAS, the citizens and units of local government in Dakota County participated in
developing the Groundwater Protection Plan and the plans of the Water Management
Organizations; and
WHEREAS, these plans identified education as a primary tool for the protection of water
resources; and
WHEREAS, a County-wide water resources education plan is currently being prepared; and
WHEREAS, water resources education will provide citizens with the knowledge,
understanding, and motivation to protect water resources; and
WHEREAS, water resources education can be most effectively delivered to all citizens of the
County when it is conducted in a collaborative and cooperative manner; and
WHEREAS, the participation of local governmental units, educational organization and other
organizations involved in education is important for the development of a County-wide water
resources education p{an.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Rosemount supports the attached
policy statement as a guide for its water resources education activities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Rosemount will participate in the development
of the County-wide Water Resources Education Plan by providing input throughout the
planning process and review of the final plan.
