Identification of Possible 1994 Work Items s j MEMO TO: Chair Dunn Cammissioners Anderson, Carroll, Edwards, McMenomy, Sinnwell, - Wippermann FROM: 7ohn Miller, Economic Development Coordinator DATE: September 29, 1993 RE: Identification of Possible 1994 Work Items Nation's Cities Weekly recently published poll results showing the public's feeling abaut city government and its ability to affect the economy. A copy of the pie chart showing those results is included. The really surprising fmding to me was that more than two-thirds of those polled thought local government could have a significant or substantial unpact on "bringing about economic development." I fmd this encouraging. Now to the issue. At the work session I will ask each af you to list those projects or tasks that yau thi.nk the port authority should work at in 1994. And as Salverda did, we'll list them all, discuss them and vote. The selected items will then appear in same form in a draft' budget for your review at the work session in October. With your fmal review coming at the first port authority meeting in November. In an earlier memo to you I suggested only two broad area.s where the commissioners might want to devote their efforts: 1. Business Park Development 2. Redevelopment of the Downtown Within those areas though there are several "projects" possible. Just as a start, here is a list o.f possible projects that I don't necessarily recommend but that might aid in yaur.decision making process. 1. Contribute to purchase of downtown ligh ' g standards. 2. Promote (advertise) the business park. 3. Purchase land for senior housing. 4. Use 'I money to assure CMC access to downtown. a 5. Promote (advertisej retail oppariunities in all of Rosemount.Q 6. Extend utilities into the business park. I.. 7. Work with Cottages Inc. to find a senior housing site. 8. Contribute to sidewalksltxail development in and leading to the downtown: 9. Work with the Rosemount MalUMiller's grocery store/Terry's Hardware to improve parking and access. 10. Build a "business incubator" in the business park. Q 11. Assemble small pieces and remnants of land in the clowntown area for beautification. 12. Emphasize redevelopment of the Behrens property. - Actually this is kinda fun.
