Discussion of Field Trip to Inspect Senior Housing Development by Cottages, Inc. . . `aa CITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUPIl+tARY FOR ACTION PORT AUTHORITY COMMISSION MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 16, 1993 AGENDA ITEM: FIELD TRIP TO INSPECT SENIOR AGENDA SECTION: HOUSING DEVELOPED BY COTTAGES, INC. WORK SESSION PREPARED BY: JOHN MILLER, AGENDA Q- ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR t ATTACffiSENTS: MEMO AP 'D BY: lf ' Please see attached memorandum ( .. 1 , — --- --_ ' -- -- 17 ! . . . RECOMMENDED ACTION: Se'lection of a time/date to view the North St. Paul Cottages Inc. senior housing project. PORT AUTHORITY ACTION: ` . . MEMO TO: Chair Dunn Commissioners Anderson, Carroll, Edwards, McMenomy, Sinnwell, Wippermann FROM; John Miller, Economic Development Coordinator DATE: November 10, 1993 RE: Update on Cottages Inc. Senior Housing Project In earlier discussions the members of the commission indicated an interest in visiting a senior housing project completed and operated by Cottages, Inc. Frederick Schwart-has stated that he will be glad to show the North St. Paul development ta you at your convenience. In this regard if you establish a time and date when you want to make the field trip, I will arrange for Mr. Schwartz to meet you at the site. In visiting with the Cottages Inc. people, I took the liberty of telling them the port authority was interested in supporting the project only if it was aesthetically pleasing and well constructed. I was assured this was the position of Cottages, Inc. as well and that if the commissioners saw design and construction aspects they especially liked or disliked these would be addressed in development of the Rosemount plans. This being the case, the field trip should be viewed with some importance. x x Let me take this opportunity to give you an update on Cotta.ges Inc. activities. First, that fum has selected a site -- the Broback industrial area located on Diamond Path. Purchase agreements have been submitted to the five owners of the five northernmost parcels with closing dates in April. If all the owners do not agree to sell the land, Cottages Inc. is not bound to buy any of the parcels. In addition, I should point out that if the purchase agreements are not signed, Cottages Inc. has every intention in the world of simply selecting one of the other available sites in Rosemount. Cottages Inc. has completed its demographic analysis and believes there is a large market for seniar houing in Rosemount. It wants to locate a project here and site is of secondary importance.
