Approximately one year ago the Rosemount School District initiated a policy
to charge students to park in the parking lot at the three high schools in
the school district.. At that time the City of Rosemount conducted a survey
of the area south of the Rosemount High School to determine the interest of
the residents in that area for restrictive or parking by permit. This was
done with an effort to recognize the potential problem of students parking
on city street's rather than paying the parking fee.
A recommendation was brought to the city council at time to install
"parking regulation" signage in the area and issue permits to residents so
the Police Department could effectively enforce the regulation and allow
residents to use the streets to park on.
The City Council decided to wait and see if a problem did surface.
Last year the complaints from residents in the area were fairly light.
This year several complaints have been received by residents because of the
number of students parking off campus and the traffic congestion and
safety concerns raised oecause of the increased traffic.
At Mayor McMenomy's re est this item has been placed back on the agenda
for discussion and at least one resident will be present at the meeting on
Monday to voice her concerns on the issue.
Chief Rnutsen will be available for comment on this matter.
