COMMISSION LETTER
TT
At the urging of Mr. Jack Tonkin, Rosemount resident and Ringette Program
supporter, City Staff has met with representatives of the Minnesota
Ringette Program and the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission.
The purpose of these meetings was to discuss the 1994 World Ringette
Championship. Each two years a World Ringette Championship is held.
In 1990 it was held in Winnipeg, Canada. In 1992 it was held in Helsinki,
Finland. Rosemount is being asked to consider hosting the 1994 event.
The tournament attracts eight to ten Ringette teams from throughout the
world.(A fact sheet is attached.)
If Rosemount decides to support this event it will require a major
commitment through the use of the new arena, providing staff support,
publicity assistance and a potential small financial commitment, although
most financial support can probably be provided through local corporate
contributions.
Representations from the Ringette Association will be present tuesday
evening to discuss the event. Attached find further information on the
event.
RECON ENDED ACTION: MOTION TO SUPPORT THE CITY OF ROSEMOUNT'S BID FOR
THE 1994 WORLD RINGETTE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO DIRECT
STAFF TO CONTINUE INVOLVEMENT IN THE PLANNING
PROCESS.

The Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission heartily supports bringing

Dear Mayor McMe}mcm-Iy:
District 196 and the City of Lagan have decided to increase communications between
their two organizations by each designating one elected official to serve as a liaison with the
other organization. The designated school board members and city council mernber will Tneet
periodically and as needed to discuss issues of mutual concern.
We in District 196 think this is an idea which could be beneficial to our
communications with all our cities. We believe it would help both the district and the city, as
we seek to provide duality services to our residents, if we stay in close touch with one
another. Therefore, we are interested in designating ono school board member as it liaison
with your city to meet periodically with one « 1' y0Llr city council me moors.
Please let me know if you would be interested in this kind of arrangement.
