McMenomy, Mayor AGENDtMM # 9 ATTACM0ITS: Proclamation APPRO B Volunteers of America, one of this nation's and Minnesota's largest human service organizations, has asked that I proclaim March 1-8 Volunteers of America Week in Rosemount. Attached is a copy of the proclamation. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Proclaim March 1-8, 1992 "Volunteers of America Week". Box 510, Rosemount, Minnesota 65068.0510 COUNCILMEMBERS Sheila Wasson A James (Red) Steals Harry Willcox PROCLAMATION Dennis wippermann ADMINISTRATOR "VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK" Stephan Jilk MARCH 1 - 8, 1992 WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian social service organization, is celebrating its 96th year of service to the people of Minnesota and the nation; it is therefore certainly appropriate for us to join in the observance of this milestone with the commemoration of March 1-8, 1992 as Volunteers of America Week; and WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is making a valuable contribution to the people of Minnesota by providing 2 residential treatment centers for emotionally handicapped boys; -a children's emergency shelter; 6 programs serving autistic, autistic -like and/or developmentally disabled children and youth; 55 treatment foster homes and group homes for infants, children and youth; 5 homes for elderly and/or mentally disabled adults; 43 senior citizen dining sites in Anoka and Hennepin Counties; a pre-release and work -release correctional program for men and a jail, workhouse, and work -release correctional program for female offenders; plus programs for boys with severe behavioral problems;_ children's emergency shelter; and services for drug free neighborhoods through providing support services for community programs funded in part by a grant from ACTION. WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, through its compassionate, yet practical crusade, is extending spiritual fellowship as it provides relief where it is most urgently needed; and WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is commemorating its founding in 1896 and urges others to uphold the American philanthropic spirit thorugh their commitment to help those in need. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, E. B. McMenomy, Mayor of the City of Rosemount, do hereby proclaim the week of March 1-8, 1992, as VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK in the City of Rosemount, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this proclamation be transmitted to the Volunteers of America as evidence of our esteem.
