RE: Commulnity Center / Armory Project U date
Upon the Port Authority's recommendation and the City Council's own
review, the City Council did pass a motion to authorize the plans
and specifications for the Arena portion of this project to be
completed. and that city staff and consultants should continue to
work to investigate all issues to bring the project to Port
Authority and the City Council for final consideration.
The architects are working on these drawings and have completed a
major portion of them.
There will be meeting on Thursday, June 18th at 6:30 P.M., with the
Armory Committee to review the plans. Please consider attending.
The City's Utility Commission was presented information on Monday,
June 8th, regarding the options for extending utilities (water,
sanitary sewer',and storm sewer) to the site. The costs to do this
will not be shared by the National Guard, providing the "site" with
utilities is the City's responsibility. I have asked the Utility
Commission to consider picking up, with payments from the
Commissions "Utility Core Funds" those specific costs which would
normally be picked up by the Armory if it was a private project.
This could save the city general government fund some $400,000.
The Commission was receptive to the idea and as specific costs are
obtained, we will revisit this request with the Commission.
In that same', light, the City Council, will be considering
recommendations from the city staff on which alternatives to
complete for these utility extensions at their Council Meeting on
Tuesday, June 16th.
I will attempt, to provide additional information on this project
to you on Tuesday to keep you up to date. There are many issues
to conclude on', the project before the bid opening date, now set for
August 13th, and between the bid opening date and construction.
Meetings with consultants, the National Guard and bond consuls are
being held along with almost daily meetings with staff and the
City's architect as the project is now moving quickly along.
