Training Consent PREPARED BY: Aker, AGETFE t Y l 7t 1 Scott Fire Chief .4 ATTACHMENTS: APPROVED BY: None This item is a request for authorization to spend $3,240 on the necessary on-going training of the fire department for 1992. Regular on-going training for the fire department which requires outside instructors include the following: 1. FIREFIGHTER I - Firefighter I class would be for 4 new persons we are adding in 1992. The class is offered on a regular basis by the Dakota County Technical' College. This cost of the class is $185 per person which would bring the total to $740 for 4 people. Money has beea-budgeted in Account #101-42210-01-308. 2. FIRST RESPONDER - The First Responder class is a 40 -hour class which is given to all new members of the fire department. After that time, members go through a 16 - hour refresher course every other year. We areanticipatingthe need to send 9 people to this full 40 -hour course which is offered again by the Dakota County Technical College or through Divine Redeemer. The cost of the class is approximately $80 per student and with 9 people attending the total cost for this training would be approximately $800.00. Money has been budgeted in Account 0101-42210-01-308. 3. HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TRAINING This class is a 45 -hour class which is required by all persons who would be responding to any type of a hazardous materials incident. This class is offered by the Dakota County Technical College. Theapproximatecost of the class including all materials, books and handouts is $165.00 per student. We would have 6 people in need of taking this class during 1992 for a total of approximately $1,000. Money has been budgeted in Account #101-42210-01-319. 4. FIRST RESPONDER REFRESHER - Approximately one-half of the fire department is in need of this re -certification class each year. This class is provided on a flat fee basis by Divine RedeemerfHealtheast at a cost $400.00. Approximately 15persons will be attending this class in 1992. Again, money has been budgeted in Account #101-42210-01-308. 5. STATE CERTIFICATION - Upon completion of Firefighter I training, all perspective regular firefighters are required to undergo a state certification test. We will have 8 persons in need of this certification during 1992. At $35.00 per person that would be an approximate cost of $300.00. Money has been budgeted in Account 1101-42210-01-437. These items would be the regular on-going training required of firefighters during 1992. Any classes firefighters would opt to take above and beyond these that are required would be brought to the council on an individual basis. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to authorize the fire department to spend $3,240.00 during the course of 1992 for on-going basic training/education requirements. COUNCIL ACTION:
