This item is before Council for approval to purchase a new laser
printer. We currently have an older laser printer that is utilized
as a "community" printer on our network. Because -of the large
workload that is required for that printer due to word processing,
it has been apparent for some time that a second laser printer
would be very advantageous for the City. This -second printer would
also be set up as a "community" printer on the network, meaning
that everyone would have equal access to it.
A committee of City staff was formed to choose the best suited
printer for our needs. The final choices of the committee were
both Hewlett-Packard LaserJet Series III printers. The final
recommendation for purchase was the Series IIIsi printer. After
getting quotes from three vendors and speaking individually with
these vendors, the committee recommended purchasing the printer
from Copy Duplicating Products(CDP). I feel that the printer
choice and the vendor choice are both excellent ones.
The money for this printer was included as part of the 1992 budget
process. It is included in the Finance Department's budget.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the purchase of a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet IIIsi laser printer
from Copy Duplicating Products(CDP) for the quoted price of $3,515.00,
and a used printer stand for the quoted price of $75.00 for a total of
of $3,590.00 to come from account number 101-41520-01-393.
