City Commission / Committee PayCITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE -SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: DECEMBER 15, 1992 AGENDA ITEM: CITY COMMISSION PAY AGENDA SECTION: NEW BUSINESS PREPARED BY: STEPHAN JILK, CITY ADMINISTRATOR AGENDA NITEamM# r ATTACHMENTS: RESOLUTION APEROVEP APPROVEBY: At the present time our City Commissions and committees receive varying rate of pay for their meetings as follows; Port Authority = $35 Utilities Commission = $25 Planning Commission = $25 Parks & Recreation = $15 In reviewing this I discussed it with department heads and they felt that all standing committee members should be paid at the same rate. Each member, in my mind is worth as much as another. In consideration of this position I have drafted the attached resolution designating a payment of $35 per meeting payment for all commission/committee members. In anticipation of this change the 1993 budgets reflect this $35 amount. Also, there has been a lot of discussion in the past about the City Council not getting paid for special council meetings. In recognition of the workload placed on the Council and the number of special meetings the Council has, I would recommend that the Council consider revising the City Code to allow payment for special council meetings. If Council directs, we can provide a revised City Code for your consideration in January. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to adopt Resolution Approving all City Commission and Committee Per Diem Pay effective January 1, 1993. COUNCIL ACTION: CITY OF ROSEMOUNT DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 1992 - A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING COMMISSION AND COMMITTEE MEMBER PER DIEM PAY WHEREAS, many Rosemount residents serve their community by giving of their time and energy acting as members of standing committees and commissions; and WHEREAS, these residents receive minimum pay only for their attendance at required meetings; and WHEREAS, there now exists an inconsistency between the various commissions and committees on the payment for attendance of these meetings. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that effective January 1, 1993, City -Commission and Committee Member per diem pay will be as follows: Parks & Recreation Committee . . . . . $35 Planning Commission . . . . . . . $35 Port Authority Commission . . . . . . $35 Utilities Commission . . . . . . . . . . $35 for attendance at their individual committee and commission regularly scheduled and special meetings. I moved my family to Rosemount in 1990 after residing out of the state for several years. Having grown up in Inver Grove Heights, this area is very familiar to me. Having made my home in Rosemount, I would like to sees the city develop in a positive way. My civil engineering background gives me experience in planning. and the knowledge of development practices. A majority of my 11 years of engineering experience has been in construction for several federal agencies. The nature of my profession gives me direct experience as relates to the commission member roles outlined in the policy. For example, I am required to complete projects from planning through construction. I am willing to commit my time and energy to this commission. Thank you for your consideration.
