On December 10, 1992 the City Council will hold a public hearing for the
purposes of consideration of the 1993 General Fund Operating Budget and the
1993 Capital Improvement Budget.
This hearing is required under the "Truth in taxation" law and requires
that the City Council adopt the 1993 budget and final 1993 levy at that
hearing or at a date to which this hearing is adjourned.
A final budget and levy must be approved and certified',to the County
Auditor by December 28th or the City will, by law, lose 5% of its Local
Government Aid and 5%- of its Equalization Aid in 1993.
In order to prepare for the hearing on December 10th it is important that
the Council reach consensus on the final draft of the budget to be
presented for consideration on December 10th.
In order to have additional opportunity to review the budget and to discuss
the complete budget as presented more thoroughly, I would recommend
additional Council work sessions on this matter. I would recommend our
meeting on November 24th at 8:00 p.m. and December 8th,if necessary.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO CALL FOR SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING FOR
NOVEMBER 24TH AT 8:00 P.M. TO DISCUSS THE PROPOSED 1993 OPERATING
BUDGET AND LEVY
